Please respond to the following questions as you begin your project.

What are your goals for this project - that is what are you targeting for improvement among your students?
My main goal is to see all students improve on their LtoJ performance, even if it is only a minor improvement by the end of the year. I would also like to surpass last year's class average for LtoJ because this would mean continuous improvement for my teaching over last year.

What instructional strategies do you plan to use? Base this on "A Teacher's Guide to Reflective Practice": ReflectivePrac(05).pdf
Here are some of the main strategies I intend to use, which tie in nicely to reflective practice:
  1. Clear Learning Goals - Students know the benchmark for each quarter and will work to meet this goal or come as close to it as possible.
  2. Track Student Progress - Students will take a weekly random quiz and graph individual results, as well as the class results. Teacher will also chart how each section does and compare the class overall to previous years.
  3. Celebrate Success - Each section will choose a celebration when they have an ATB (All Time Best). The teacher will also post each perfect score by a student on the Perfect Scoreboard.
  4. Preview New Content in "Digestible Bites" - New terms will be taught to the class in small chunks (lists) every other week and include lots of examples and visuals.
  5. Students Record and Represent Knowledge - Students will take notes on the new terms and come up with their own examples and visuals.
  6. Homework and Academic Games - Students will use a variety of online games to learn the LtoJ terms.
  7. Physical Movement and Varied Learning Styles - Students will participate in a variety of learning/review games every other week to interact with the LtoJ terms and their peers. Some examples are charades, memory game, jeopardy, QR scavenger hunt, name that term, seven up, five questions or less, and lots more, including ones students create on their own.
  8. Demonstrate Intensity and Enthusiasm - The teacher will maintain enthusiasm for the LtoJ process to show it is critical information and enhance student engagement.
  9. Maintain Effective Relationships with Students - The teacher will find ways to connect content to what students are interested in and foster a sense of respect for all students.
  10. Rules and Procedures - The classroom expectations will be continually enforced throughout the year to maintain a positive learning environment where students know the expectations and how to achieve them.

How to you plan to assess learning?
Learning will be assessed through the random quizzes, formative observation, and end of quarter testing. I would also like to find a way to track student use of the online games, but without the login system (like Angel) this is no longer as easy to access.

Please post reflections as you implement your project.
February 12th - Right now the class has dropped below the 50% mark on the last two random quizzes, so I know I have my work cut out for me in order to bring this around and reach the 75% mark by the end of the quarter and surpass last year's class by the end of the year.
